Everyone needs a goal. If you want to know how your life is going to turn out, you need to know where you’re heading. Goal setting is crucial.
The Power of Decision
Goal setting isn’t rocket science. If you don’t know where you’re heading, how will you know when you’ve arrived?
Most of us serve our ideals by fits and starts. The person who makes a success of living is the one who sees his goal steadily and aims for it unswervingly. – Cecil B. Demille
Okay, let’s think this through. You are already successful at setting personal goals and achieving them. Really, you are! I dare you to list some personal goals now. You know, those times you decided to do something and went out and did just that.
Here’s a list of personal goals I’ve achieved with steadfast determination
- become an engineer
- buy my first car (and learn to drive)
- find a partner to share life
- own my first home
- financial independence
I could go on. But there’s no need. I hope you’ll notice that these aren’t extraordinary personal goals. In many ways, they are quite ordinary. But they all have one thing in common: I wanted them. And I achieved them.
Some took some years to realize. Others, months. But my purpose was to achieve my goals.
If you truly want something, you’ll go out and get it. That’s the power of decision. Goal setting is not about writing lists or brainstorming. It’s simply a matter of choice. So, don't overthink things, keep things simple, and to it the lazy leader way.
What drives you toward fulfilling your ambition? How do you keep on track and overcome obstacles? You are welcome to tell us about your experiences in the comments.
